Troop Meetings

The Troop meets each Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Regester Chapel’s Youth Center. Troop meetings are planned by the PLC, lead by the SPL, and supervised by the Scoutmaster Staff.

Troop meetings are held year round except on Stafford County school holidays. If Stafford County schools are closed due to inclement weather, meetings on that day are also cancelled.

A Scout must attend at least 75% of scheduled troop meetings to be considered an active scout unless this requirement is waived by the Scoutmaster.

A minimum of two adult leaders who have taken the BSA youth protection training will be present at all troop meetings.

Activities

The troop normally sponsors one weekend activity each month throughout the year. These activities are planned by the PLC and include hiking, camping, water sports, and other events.  The activity location, cost, suggested clothing/equipment, and other information is announced well in advance.

Scouts may be required to register for an activity and pay any fees ahead of time. If a scout registers for an activity and the troop pays for his participation, the scout is responsible for paying those costs whether he attends the event or not.

Each Scout must have a signed permission form on file with the troop to participate in troop activities.  Some activities, such as summer camp, also require a current physical be on file with the troop.

A Scout must attend at least 60% of scheduled troop activities to be considered an active scout unless this requirement is waived by the Scoutmaster.

A minimum of two adult leaders who have taken the BSA youth protection training will be present during all activities. Other certifications, such as BSA Safe Swim, will be required depending upon the activity.

Family Responsibilities

Each Troop family is expected to participate as a chaperone for at least two activities each year; this may include driving children of other families to and from events.  It is expected that once a family volunteers to help during a particular activity, the family will honor that commitment. Drivers will have to provide driver’s license numbers and auto insurance information to the troop.

Service Projects

Being of service to others is a major component of the Scouting program, and the troop participates in several service projects throughout the year.  Service projects are designed to benefit the local community and suggestions for service projects are welcome. A service project is typically required to be eligible for rank advancement. More on this requirement can be found in the advancements section of the Troop policy.
